IAUPO ATTRACTING RESIDENTS. BUILDING ACT1YITY CONTINUES.
The building activity still continues in Taupo. Recently tlie contractors handed over to Mr Gillies one of the (•nest garages between Napier and Auckland. It is in concre'te, with a sweep inside the building served by scveral pumps. Captain Rainey, nf "Wellington, has also come bere to live and bas butlt a house of about £1200 value. A comfortable cottage is being comlu'eted by Mr Ramsay, and Dr. Thomas has made a start. Tlie Afforestation Co., of Melbourne, building a good residence for tlieir general manager, Mr V. T. Fail, at a cost of about £1100. The Tourist Bureau, near the wharf, has been completed, aud will be in operation next season. It is a uselul In ilding. but strangers do not know where to find it, and by tlie time tliey get out of tlie town down to the wharf tliev bave probably got all tbe intormation they want. YTr Thorpe, our latest addition to tlie storekeepers, is adding a residence to his new store. Messrs Palmer and Sons *liave reirovcd tlieir miil to a new bush, and tlie Tuwbaretoa vSawmilling Co., of Tokaanu, bas eslablislied a timbcr yard here. To cap tbe lot. Mrs Milburn came toi a day or two. bought about 10 sections, lot a contract for a residence of about £2U00, and leturncd to Scotladn. She proposcs to come out every Summer witli lier friends.
