Thc anti-rcligious campaign was a complete fiasco at Tula, where tlie Soviet organised tlie annual anti-God torc-li processions and entertainments and atteuipted to obstruct tlie approaches to cliurches, but the chureh- . goers broke up the processions, tore up flags and effigies and cTiased the organisers on the streets indoors. Anti-religious performances were also broken up. There were similar scenes in neighbouring villages and many denionstrators were injured. Tn connection with tlie frequent terrorism at Kieff, tlie Soviet sliot 13 persons, alleging tliat they were concerned in 200 to 300 raids during recent years.
