After_ seeing the air sequenees in "The Air Cireus," whicli commences at ihe popular Majestie Tlieatre 011 Saturday, it is ea.sy to believe the-advanee press stories which stated that Sue Carol, David Rollins and Artbur Lake learned to Hy before making this pieture. These tliree youngsters perform in airplanes like yeterans at the controls. Their flving ability, added to tbeir acting ability, did mucli to make this Fox production, which Howard Hawks and Lew Seiler directed, one of tlie hest that has been seen here in a long time. While the thrills and exciting moments are furnished hy the soenesinthe air, tho pieture isnotlacking in lieart interest and sentiraental appeal. There is a winsome quality about Sue C'arol that makes her entirely charming. In her efforts to make David Rollius a fearless airman she wins the syrapathy of the audienee. The charm of the acting in this pieture also_ is enhauced by tlie presence of Louise Dresser, who plays tbe role of youug Rollins' mother. As always she gives a perfect performance. Arthur Lake, the third member of the trio of youngsters. is absolutely infectious in liis performance. You like him from the first flasli 011 the screen. The tlieme of the storv deals with the efforts of a young man to conquer his fear of the air with the aid of his mother, the girl he loves. and his bucldy. There is plenty of room for
heart-pull in this pieture and the directors succcedcd in getting remarkable performances out of all members of the cust. "A Single Man" a new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer i'eature, is tho sixtli production in which Lew Codv and Aileen Priugle have so-starred, and the most ainusing of them all, as C'odv linds ronimice with his neighbour's daughter a hreathless affair. Codv and Miss Priugle have been paired as a comedy team longer, and niore successfull.v tliau any otlier in niotion pictures. thev introdnced a new type of comedy, tlie sophisticated laugb cocktail : tlie movie vcrsion of tlie highly deft and divcrting fan e. Their comedy is of tlie wise and witty kind, based on the atmosphcre they create, the power they have of projecting viewpoints and personalities on to tlie screen, rather than in slap-sticks or gags. Tlieirs is a penetrating humour, ratlicr 11 riotous one. Plan at the Bristol Piuno Coy. or tlieatre 'phone 270S.
