"THE WRECKER."
"The MTecker," tlie thrilling railway mystery play, to he staged for tlie first time hy the J. C. "VVilliamson, Ltd., management, in conjunction with E. J. Carrol at the Municipal Tlieatre for oue night only on Tuesday next, opens in the central office of the Great Trunk Railway, wliere the audienc-e makes the acquaintance of most of the cbaracters of the plav. Tlie dialogue turns 011 tlie activities of a mvsterious "wrecker" who has sent train after train to destruction. "Tbe AVrecker" is the moro or lcss liebulous personage to whom the outragcs have been attributed. His identity is well coneealed. An obvious culprit is suggested in C'hester Dovle. who sets out make money out of tlie terror creatcd by "Tho AVrecker." Then follows the niurder of a railway c.hief, Sir George Bartlet, sliot dcad in a room filled with friends and undcr their eyes. Screams are heard in a later scene wlien a mystery liand appears, lights go.out, and a lady detective is fierccly warned. In qnick succession iollow tbe doping of a signal box crew ainl tlie timely saving of an express through the toss of a coin as to wnic-h lever should be pulled. The interest in the story is maintained right np to tlie finisli, which discloses, in a really fine anticlimax, the identity of ihe wrecker. It is said that tlie train and otlier effects introduced are an outstanding feature of tlie production. For a play of this description a specially powerful cqmpany of dramatic artists is necessarv, and it is evident that tlie management has been fortnnate in tliis respect as in Sydney tbe company was described as one of tlie best tbat has ver appeared in a dramatic production there.
