Farmers in Southern Hawke's Bay have been troubled with quite considerable mortality amougst sheep during the past few weeks, due it is believed, to the large amount of a-ank feed that there is about this season. With only one criminal case set down for trial at the forthcoming sessions of the Napier Supreme Court, jurymen summoned for that occasion. may congratulate themselves ou having liit upon au exceptionally short criminal session. The Napier Boxing Association has received. advic'e that Sid.' North, the Australian box3r, who is under ' co:itract to tliem, will leave Sydney 011 J une 6 for Napier, where he will meet tlie Waitara fighter, "Firemau" Tommy Donovan on June 19. Music lovers. are reminded of Messrs Lock.ver's usual fortnightly gramophone recital, which will he held in the Cosuiopolitan Hall to-night, commencing at eight o'clock. The usual high standard of prograrnme will he provided and musio lovers are promised an evening of pure enjoyment. Numbers of the new blue and white motor registration plates are now to be seen^in the Napier streets, acting as a reminder to those motorists who have liot yet _ re-registered their vehicles that their term of freedom on the roads is nearly at an end. The past few days has seen a pronounced' stimulation of business at the office of re-registration. On Tuesday evening, at eight o'clock, the fourth euchre tournament was held in the Onga Onga Hall. To-morrow an appeal is to be made on behalf of the Napier Hospital for funds to construct a sub-way from Jell'.coe Yard to the main buildings, and the object is oue which should comrnend itself to all who take an, inter-e.-t in the welfare of' the patieiits and nursing staff, It is now five years since the public have been iiivited to n.ake a public subscription in connection witli tbe hospital and it is hoped that the response made will be a generous one. A special meOting of the Napier City Council will be held this evening to consider the question of the Market Reserve block.
