GRAND 31ILITARY BALL. HELD LAST NIGHT. The grand military ball wbicb was held in the Hastings Assembly Hall last niglit under the auspices of the lst Haxvke's Bay Regiment xvas a pronounced success, and can be written doxvn as one of the most brilliant functions held in Hastings this season. The liali xvas decoratcd xvith red and grcen streamers, with a plentiful supply of greenery aud shrubs. Aloiig Ihe xvalls xvero distinctive cards bearing tlie regiment' s battle honours, and in tlie cent ro of thc room xx'as a gaily decoratcd stand for tlie orchesfra. The stago xvas paintcd to represent two dug-outs 011 "110 inan's land," and included in tlie decoration scheme xvere the regimental colours xvliieh xvere presented on Anzae Day. In addition, there xvas a magnificent display of tlie trophies xvliich have heen xvon by the regiment, these creating exceptional mterest. .The music xvas supplied by Walden's Orcbestra, and tbe dancing xvas kept up till tlie early hours of the morning. It was interspersed with a gorgeous supper, served in the prettily decorated dining-room, under the supervision of a ladies' committee, and from stavt to end the xvholc function xxras one of the fullest cnjoyment, reflecting the very greatest eredit 011 all those lesponsible for its organisation. 1
