Graliam, seeretary of the Mangatahi Rod and Gun Cluh, was elected to the executive of tlie Hawke's Bay Acelimatisation Society at the niontlily meeting of that hody last night. Messrs John Mason and 0. Tronson have resigned their memhership of the Hawke's Bay Acelimatisation Society and at last night's nieeting of the society notice of their resignation was accepted with regret. Cadet R.. J. Mr George Tate, one of the best dairy cattle judges in New South Wales, died in Sydney, aged 49 years. Deceased' s ability was widely known and his services were several tinies sought by the New Zealand Governuient. — Cahle. Mr B. J. During his stay 111 the j Waipukurau Hospital Mr Atkins l generously allowed two blood trans- j fusions to he taken, in order to save a j patient who was near the liordor-Iine. j Mr Frederick IVest, an jold and higlily respected resident of Napier, passed away at the Napier Hospital this mornmg at the age of 82 years. Deceased, uho resided in Cobden road, was _ a very well-known identity in Napier, having for many years pur.su ecl the orcupation of gardener. He leaves a widow and family to mourn tlieir loss and to wliom the svmpathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended.
Mr James McMillau, seeretary to the Napier Soldiers' Club for many years, who has relinquished that position, was met last night hy a gathering of club members, 011 wliose 'behalf Mr Nr. Ivettle presented the popular retiring seeretary with a wallat of notes as a mark of the esteem in which he is lield. In making the presentation Mr Kettle referred to the fact that_ Mr McMillan had fillecl the position since the club's inception 15 years ago and a no more popular seeretary coulcl have been fonncl anywhere. He also spoke of the interest that lMac" had taken m military affairs, and being an old soldier he had the honour of being the first person in Napier to he a memher r f the recruiting committee during the Great War. Mr McMillan macle a suitahle reply.
Mr R. L. Harrowsfield, of the Napier hranch of the Commercial Bank, was farewelled prior to leaving on transfer for Wellington, at the Terraces Private Hotel last evening, when, on behalf of his fellow boarders he was presented witli a handsome pipe and case as a mark of the esteem Tn_ wliich he is held by them. Mr J. Biss, 111 making the presentation, referred to the cordial goodfseling existing between Mr Harrowsfield and his fellow boarders and the high esteem in which he. was held by them. He hoped the small gift wonld be accepted as a token of the good wishes of all for his future happiness and prosperity. Mr Harrowsfield snitahly replied. Mr Harrowsfield was also the reripient of a tohacco ponch from his fellow members of the stnff of the Commercial Bank. Ho left for Wellington by train this . iQorning,
