WESTERN ELECTRIC TALKIES COMING TO THE GAIETY.
Notbiug more gratifying could be experienced by tlie Gaiety Theatre management tlian the complimentary romarks bestowed upon them by. eountless patrons, when tlie news of the "talkies" burst upon them through the columns of this journal, when it hecame known that technical perfeetion was made possible by the Western Electric equipment, wbicb will be installecl in the Gaiety de Lnxe, J\Ir H. W. Thompson already having received numerous congratulations on his choice and judgment in supplying Niv pier theatre-goers with the world's finest "talking" apparatus. The voice oi your favourite movie star can be reprodueed with remarkable fidelity tu the original recorded tone. Simiiarly tbe music of large orchestras used in making musical setting to ' pictures can be reprodueed so well that it is difficult to distinglish hetween the reprodueed and the orginal. Such clarity of tone quality is possible only through the use of the best equipment and the latest product of tbe engineering genius that has been responsible for the wonderful development of the "talkies." Such equipment is a marvel of enginerieng skill and design With the use of Western Electric apparatus in practically all of the talkng motiou picture studios, the recording of the tone as originally caught by
the micropbone is taken for granted. But in the theatre as well, Western Electric apparatus is reproducing the recorded tone, reliably, efficiently, at adecjuate volume, and witliout distortion, perfection in quality. The entertainment value of "talkies" cannot be fairly judged unless the film record is reprodueed by Western Electric Tlieatre equipment, already installed in 1250 theatres throughout the world. AVestern Electric experts are now engaged in wiring tho Gaiety, vet this is only a minor work, the installation of the "talkie" plant itself taking days to complete and to this end the Gaiety will closo its doors next Saturday .night, August 17, after the show and will re-open on the following Saturday evening, August 24, at 7.45. During that period the theatre will undcrgo a thorough transformation which will bo in perfoct keeping with such a plant as the Western Electric sound system, costing the management close on £6000. The opening programme. which is a one hundred per cent all talking. siuging and dancing production, "Thc Singing Fool," starring thc world's greatest entevtainer, Al Jolson, must not he classed with anv other so-called talkie film, as "The Singing Fool" is thc recognised world's record brcaking sensation ,and its prescntation in Napier will add still further to its long list of laurels. The Gaiety management asks its patrons not to judge "talkie" pictures until they have heard rcproduction on the Western Electric sound systern and tlie presentation of Al Jolson in "The Singing Fool." The hox plans for the entire season will open in the course of a fcw days at Hydc's.
