HAMILTON, Last mght. Estensive erosion at about a quarter of a niile bejow the spillway at Arapuni is causing Public Works engineers some cojicern. B5 was learned tg-day that if tlie erosion contijiued indefinitely tlie spillway wopld be demolighed. Yesterday Mr F. IV. Furkert, En-gineer-in-Ciiief of the Public IVorks Department, inspected the hydro-elec-tric works and, it is understood, made certain recommendatjons for tlie relief of water accumulating near tlie water- ! fall. "The position is hecoming serions. but no alarm need he felt," stated another official of tlie department this afternoon. "We propose takhig immediate steps to clieck tlie erosion. Xt ifprobable it will he necessaiy to divert the water below the spillway. in other directions." ■ . .
