A BASE LEAD DOWN

DISCOUXTIXG AERIAL EFFICIENCY. The efBciency of a good aerial is sometimes discouuted by an ill-arranged lead-down. It may run parallel and close to a .wai], an'd if it does this it will certainly recluce Hhe vigour of the incoming signal. In every case tlie lead-down should slant from a point in the korizontal so as to form an angle which will keep it away from the wali or window almost till its junction with the lead-in tube is reached. Tlie correct way to fashion a downleacl is to make it an extension of the aetual wire used as a horizontal. Tbis is done by twisting tlie latter around the first or inside insulator, wliich will secure it. Points of contact otlierwise niade should be perfect, and the junction with the lead-in terminal shoukl be kept scrupulouslv clean. rIhe atmospliere corrodes this connection, which can be kept free of foreign matter by a few rubs with emery paper once a fortnight. •
