BIG CYCLING
, «S p"*~ W* RACE ARRAN GEMENTS FINALISED. PALMERSTON NORTH TO WELLINGTON. Arrangements are now complete for the running of the annual Palmerston North to Wellington road cycling event, which will take place on October 12. A meeting of tlie sub-com-mittee controlling the race was held during the week, when general arrangements for the conduct of the race were brought to finality. This year's contest will he the fourth since the inauguration of the race, and promises to be as successful as in foriner years. For months past amateur cyclists all over the Dominion have been in hard training preparing themselves for this long-distance contest. Each week. in the Wellington district, riders have been sighted travelling over portions of the route which will be traversed, and the climhing of Paekakariki Hill has been a task which has been tackled by more than a few riders during tlieir training rides. Reports received regarding the condition of the roads state them to be in perfect order, with the exception of the journey fonn Palmerston North to Levin. This part of the route is always a troublesome one, the loose rnetal on tlie roads makiu' condition s far from easy for the pedallers. Once Levin has been left behind, liowever. the riders are assured of a comfortable ride so far as road conditions are concerned. The climh of the Paekakariki Hill has proved t.he deciding factor in more than one of the previous contests.
