A FLOCK OF 'PLANES
FIVE MACH'IXES TO CALL AT HASTINGS. FLIGHT COjMNCES ON ,WEDNESDAY. Advice received from Auckland says that there is a possi bility that the 'fliglit of planes that is to tour the North Island next month, calliug- at Hastings on Oetober 9, vvill consist of five machines. Besides tvvo .of the Auckland Aero Club's ' macliines and one private plane, there is a possibilitv of the Government sending one of its uiachines to join the tour, while it i.s hopefullv expected that the party will be joined later by a Hamilton Airways Moth piloted by Captain SIcGregor. The tour has been organised for the purpose of stimulating interest in aviation and to map out a chain of suitable3 landing grounds, which is most essential to the advance of flying in the Dominion. The first landing will be made at Paeroa, and Wednesday evening will be spent at Te Aroha. On Ihe Thursday the flotilla will visit Cambridge and Te Aivamutu and will return to Auckland on Friday mornirig, the Auckland Aero Club's ball being iield that evening. The tour will be continued again on Saturday and the itinerarv provide.s for visits to New PlvmoutH, Hawera. Wanganui, Wellington, Hastings and Gisborne. Local bodies throngliont the Island have responded enthusiastically to the club's requests for conierenees and the inspection of landing grounds. Data is also to be gathered for the publishing of an aviation map.
