NOT AT ALL CLEAR
CAR AND RAILWAY CROSSING. DRIVER OF A MOTOR FJNED. At' the Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., Frederick George Cooney was charged witli, on August 28, attempting'to drive a car over a railway crossing when the line was not clear. Defendant pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that defendant drove his car on to the line and his car stalled. He admitted that he saw the porter at the crossing with a flag. The "defendant said that the porter actually stopped him on the line. It was fairly dark at the. time, and the porter did not. have a light, but an old flag which was - folded up. Had the porter a light, he would certainly have stopped. His Worship said that if there were 20 lights, some-rnen would not stop. A'eareful driver would have seen the porter. A fine of £1, costs 10s, was inflicted.
