AN UNFORTUNATE CASE

DRTJG ADDTCT APPEARS IN COURT. SENT FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT. This morning at the Hastings Magistrate's Court, before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., Clarence Raymond McKav was charged Vith, 011 September 7, 1929, breaking his probation order, tuade for a period of two years 011 Mav 17, 192S, in that he used a drug containing one ounce of one per cent moi'pbine sulphate. Mr Le B. Helleur appeared for accused and pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeapt Dempsey said that accused was similarly charged last Christmas, and later entered a medical institution for special treatment. Lately accused had broken out again. and secured the drug by representiug to a Napier dootor that he wanted the drug for a horse. Mr Helleur said the case was a most unfortunate one, arising out of war injuries. l"his was his first breach for some months and it was brought on by insomnia. Dr. Roberts, of Hastings, had suggested that the best treatment would be another term in a medical institution, to which the accused was agreeable. Prior to the war, he was studying for law, but the war broke his career. His IVorship said that the matter would have to stop somewbere. He was quite prepared to help accused and would give him a last chance by adjourning the matter f.or six months, to enable accused to secure the necessary treatment at once. The accused agreed to this condition.
