BUSINESS PORTION WIPED OUT.

GORE, Last night. Six business places in Heriot were wiped out by fire last evening. The blaze started in the Bank of New Zeala.nd huilding and destroyed the premises of hlessrs Stronacli and Morris (merchants), A. H. Sinclair (bookseller), N. McRitchie (draper), H. Dickinson (tobacconist) and the Foresters' Hall. The business area of the township is practically wiped out. Tlie origin of the hlaze is a mystery. A bueket brigade was organised, but its efforts were futile as the fire liad too stronjr a hold when, dscovered about midnight, and a strong wind fanned the flames. The contents of all the places were also lost. The insurances are unavailable. ; /
