"WILD ORCHIDS," TROPICAL ROMANCE, AT MAJESTIC.

A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer special success, "YVild Oi-chids," telling of passionate romance neath the moonlit skies of Java, land of exotic mystefy and allure, will be screened for the last time to-night at the Majestic. This pioture, which had an unusally strong and touching plot, featured a trio of screendom's brightest personalities in Greta Garbo, Lewis Stone and Nils Asther. Miss Garbo was her usual brilliant self in the role of the young and beautiful Mrs Sterling, whose more elderly husband, a wealthy businessman, was taking her for a trip to Java as a second honeymoon. As the husband, Lewis Stone was his own debonair, well groomed self, while as •a young Javanese prince who fell in love with the attractive Mrs Sterling and endeavonred to woo her from her husband Nils Asther was excellently cast. This story of exotic unexplored Java, with a plot strong in emotional possibilitites was voted by last night's audience as one of the finest pictures seen in many moons. Miss Garbo and Nils Asther, botli natives of Sweden, were seen for the first time in collaboration and their scenes. together were of the type which linger in the memory. Second on the list was "The Head of the Family," a screenic farce treating lightly with the difficulties that a _hen-pecked father and husband had with his menage and ' how he finally thought he had solved the prohlem by hiring a hard hoiled plumber, to run tlie home with' an iroh hand. The latter .succeeded in pntting the family in' order with the aid of a length of lead piping and rrtarried -the -daughte.r .of .the .house to boot. Virginia Lee Corhm was ad- 1 mirably- cast as • this partieularly peppy young lady. The whole production was an excellent concoction of comedy and had heen adapted from | the newspaper serial story hy George | Randolph Chester. Excellent supports completed a first class programme.
