WESTMINSTER GLEE SINGERS— NOVEL ENTERTAINMENT.
One great and important feature oi the Westminster Glee Siugers, wbo are to appear in tbe Muuicipal Tlieatre, Napier, on Tuesday next, afternoon and evening, is tbe liighly attractivo manner in which their entertainment is presented. Instead of the fonnal concert platform, they employ beautiful stage settings, with many novel lighting effects, this being the first time that a combination of colour and sound has been utilised in this manner. There is a delightful intimacy about their performances to which concertgoers have not hitherto ' been accustomed, and whilst their musical standard is of the very highest, they do not disdain the lighter side. There is nothing more fascinating In the whole range of music than the hunia n voice, and when this is utilised without instrumental accompaninient, one gets tlie very perfection of mnsical beauty. Tlie Westminster Glee Singers specialise in this most attractive form of art ; tbey sing the wliole of their programmes from memorv; their repertoire consists of over 150 examples of part music, ranging from the sinipte part-song to the madrigal and glee, with occasional anthems and Christmas
carols, in addition to a most interestuig series of solos with an accompaninient of voices. Specially are they noted for the very perfection of ensemble and their soloists, both boys and men, rank with the finest that Great Britain can produce. It took Mr Edward Bransconibe, organiser and director of this Emjiire tour, many montlis in England to arrange for leave of absence for members of the company from tlie Cathedrals and Colleges of choristers, and it has been arranged that tbe New Zealand portion of the tour will be under the personal direction of Mr Henry Hayward. Concessions to parties of pupils from schools and colleges are offered for the matir.ee, which, to suit school liours, will commcnce at 3.30. The hox plans for the two performances are now open at Howe Bros.
