THE WORLD OF MUSIC
(By "B Natural").
The Napier Liedertafel held its tenth concerfc on Wednesday evening. Tlie work of the clioir, under the baton of Alr Percy Tonibs, showed careful trainiyg, and the balance iu most instances was good. Espccially was this so in the parfc song, "Night," by SchuberG. The clioir gavo a partieularly beautiful rendering of this item and ansWered well to tlie control of tlio baton. ^ "The Ballad of the Golden Sun," with Aiiss Lillaii Frith as soloist, is a fine work aud could well bcar repeating at some futurc date. Tlio niiddle chorus was a little ragged in parts, but the opening and closing choruses were well sung. * n: Hf Afiss Fritli's solos in this work were sung very sweetly, with a beautiful inezzo-voee eft'ect at tho close of the first solo. * -h , : 'rhe other ortists. Afr Hcrrick Tonkin and Afr Louis Hay, are always enjoyable. H* ^ IMr Tonkin was inclined to lose pitrjli at times, hut otherwise gave a fine and spirited rendering of his songs. * * * Afr Louis Hay, flautist. performed in his usual avtistic manner. * * * Tlie Dunedin Cliornl Society is at present rchearsing lidward German's "Aferrie England" for its next eoneert. * * * An international "convention of blind musicians took plaee in Paris recently. * * Sullivan's "Golden Legcnd" is to be mit on this month in Chrisfehnreli by the Christchurch Afusieal Society'.
