END OF THE SESSION IN SIGHT. ANOTHER FORTNIGHT'S SITTING. Expectations that the present session of Parliament will end in the first Aveek in November are held by those in political cii'cles. Tjiis forecast has material support in the report that the Public W orks Statement, the nsual sign of the approaohing end, Avill he presentcd to the House on Wreclnesday next. Wilh the Statement Avill cotne the Public Works Estimates, and, according to present arrangements, these Avill be debated on" Friday. _ _ 1 *. Jf Sir Joseph Ward is baek in his accustoraed place to-morrow,' it is certain that Wednesday, and if neoessarv Thursday, will be devoted^ to the C'ommittee stages of the Taxatiou Bills. Should "he be still indisposed, it is not unlikely that the Transport Bill, upon Avhicli the Select Committee is due to report thus Aveek, will be brought on for second reading. 1 It has heeu arranged that the House to-night will take reports of Select Committ-ees, and among those to be presented may be found the findings of tlie respectiA-e committees which henrd evidence on the Avheat duty question, j the Transport Bill, and the RotoruaTaupo rnihvay petition. Any time left will be taken up with the consideration of departmental reports. Tliere are oplv six classes of the main estimates to he dealt AA'ith, and it is on* the cards that an attempt will be made to clean these up to-morroAv If it is decided to postpqne further oonsideraf ion of the Taxafcion or Transport Bills, there are other Government measures 011 the Order Paper that may he revieAved on Wednesday and Thursday. These include tlie Pacific Cable Sale Authorisation, the Scaffolding and Excavation Amendment, the Hospitals and Charitahle Tnstitutions Amendment, and the Apprentices Amendment Bills. all of which are due ' for Committee consideration. On the Kchedule for second reading are the Destitnte Persons Eest Hqmes Bill and the Arms Amendment Bill.
