FIGHTING REPORTED TO BE FIERCE. Reds Torture White Russians.
SHANGHAI, Oct. 19. Fierce fighting has occurred in the Saukiangkow district. It is reported in a Harbin mesage tliat the Chinese were defeated in a. sharp encounter and their command ing officer killed. Beinforcements are heing hastily despatched from the- lower vSungari districts, Kirin, and troopg from Harhin also. Mukden reports state that 4000 Eussians, representing all classes, have telegraphed from Harbin to the presidents and premiers of all the great Powers, supplying gruesome details of tlie slaughter and tnrturing of White Bussians bv Reds at Usturovsk village. The senders appealed to civilised nations to appoint a- nati-onal commissin to investigate the situation. The Feng Yu-hsiang rebellion is quieter to-day. _ Tlie oppo.ring forces are merely iakin^ positions., The Government is confident of restoring order, liut political observers are sceptical.
