VESSEL LEAVES CAPETOWN./ Off To The Antarctic.

CAPE TOWN, Oct. 19.' The Discovery saiied for the south at ten o'clock on Saturday morning. Every steamer iu the dock blew three blasts as she went out hauled by a tug and tbe Discovery responded. A crowd on the quayside cheered and sang "Auld Lang Syne." Sir Douglas Mawson appeared on the bridge and led responding cheers. A group of Australians on the forecastle cooed. The breeze was light and the Discovery used her engines as she started on her long voyage. Sir Douglas Mawson gave a message to Australia that he started with the highest hopes and was pleased with the reception of Mr Bruce's message, conveying the best wishes of the Commonwealth and looking forward to welcoming the expedition in 1930. Sir Douglas Mawson replied that tlie entire personnel deepfy appreciated the inspiring message and hoped to maintain the best traditions of Polar exploration.
