A MOTORIST V1S1TS THE COURT. A FINE INFLICTED. This morning at the Hastings Magistrate's Court, before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M.. Percy Robert Lake was charged with. on October 9, at Hastings, recklesslv driving a motor car on the footpath in St. Aubyn street. He was also charged with failing to stop wlien accosted by a policeman. A plea of guilty was entered in both chavges. Mr Averill, for the defendant, said that defendant- was driving along St. Aubyn street and turned into Caroline road, wlien one of his passengers called oufc tiiat he was going tlie wrong vay. He at once turned and in doing so drove on the footpotli. After turning he crossed the St. Aubyn street erossing and found that a t.orch was being focused on hiin. Thinking that the torch was being used by a hootlluin he did not stop. Had he known it was a policeman. defendant would have stopped. On tlie first cliarge. defendant was fined 10s. cosE 10s, and on the second, £1, costs 10s.
