HOSPITAL AUTHORITIES' VIEWS.
AUCKLAND, This day The claim tliat a Frankton man lias cured hhnself of cancer by treatment with kerosene niust be tlioroughly investigated before any assumption can be justified that a valuable addition has been made to medical knowledge. This brielly expresses tbe view of the Auckland hospital autliorities, who are directly interested in tlie case by reason of tlie fact tliat tlie man in question, Mr L. N. White, was a patient in tbe hospital three years ago. Dr. C. E. Magnire, medical sup.erintcndent of tlie Auckland Hospital, stated tliat steps were being taken to liave an exaniinatiqn made of tbe man and an iuvestigati'on of tbe metbod lie employed in order to ascerlain, first, liad tbe patient cancer ? and secondly, bas it been cured? Dr. Magnire made it eloar tliat at present only non-committal answers could be given to both of these quostions. It was not, correet to say, a.s liad been reported, tliat Mr White was diseharged l'rom tlie Auckland Hospital as ioourable. Three years ngo he was operated on for cancer and apparently the kerosene treatment had iieeu applicd to a different part of the hodv to tliat which was then affected. The operation was helieved to have been snreessful. Had the cancer oontinued in the part then affected very serions resnlts must have occurred within three years. Dr. Magnire pointed out that until fnl] investigations had heen ntade it was unwise for the nublie to huikl hopes on the hasis of Mr White's experience.
