Mr Anclrew Broom, of London, is at present visiting Napier. Mrs R. C. Thelfad, of Sydney, is at present visiting Napier. Mr E. E. Gatagon, of Sjychiey, is at present on a visit to Napier. Constable Fisher, of Napier, is at present relieving in Dannevirke. Mr and Jfrs Sidney Ivirkcaldie, of Wellington, are visiting Napier. Mr.EdmunJ St. Paul, of Sydney, is visiting Napier and is a guest at the Masonic Hotel. Miss Maud Bell, of London, England, is vi&iting Napier and is a guest at the Masonic Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. Hetrglian, of Scotland, are staying at the Masonic Hotel during their visit to Napier. Mrs F. W. Triggs, of Lincoln road, Napier, returned liome last night after a holiday visit to Wellington. Constable Tripney, of Napier, who recently underwent au operation for appendicitis in the Napier Hospital is now convalesceut. Mr E. A. Goodger, of Waipukurau, wbo has been iil for several months has recovered sufficiently to enable liim to visit Wellington. Dr. T. Gilray,' of Napier, wlio has been on a visit to tlie Motlierland and to Europe, returned to the Dominion by the R.M.S. Rangitikei, and was due back in Napier tbis evening. Comamnder Cliarles Ernest Hotliam, R.N., bas been appointed to the comniand of H.M.S. Laburnum, of the New Zealand Division of the Roynl Navy. Commander F. N. Attwood, R.N., present coimnander of H.M.S. Laburnum, will return to England shortly. Colonel F. K. Turnbull, D.S.Q., M.C., bas retired from tbe command of the Wellington-West Coast Regiment and will be placed on tlie reserve. Major R. Cade, M.C., Y.D., second in command to Colonel Turnbull, has been promoted to tbe rank of lieutenantcolonel and will take command. Both officers won distinction during the Great War. Mr G. B. Legge, tlie county captain, was marriecl to Miss Rosemary Frost, at Hayes (Kent) last month. Professional cricketers from all counties were also invited, including Mr Patsy Hendiren, of Middlesex. Among other wellknown cricketers present were Mr A. P. F. Chapman and Mr J. V. Richardson, the Oxford double Blue and Rugby international, who was best man. .Among the usliers were Mr E. W. Dawson, captain of Leicestersliire, and Mr C. J. Capes, tbe Kent bowler. The marriage ceremony was performed by Canon Thompson, rector of Hayes, who, in his address to the bride and bridegroom, said: — "As in the crieket field, so in. married life, play the game." Mr Legge is a memher of the. M.C.C. team which is touring New Zealand and Australia this Summer. The team left by the Orford on Scptember 28, _ and Mr Legge is accoinpanied by bis bride. Mrs Woolley, wife of tbe Kent and English player, is with the team. Miss Nancye Eastwood, of Gisborne, t'he well-knowrl ex-cli'ampion lady runner, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. J. Eastwood, of Gisborne, was married to Ivan Digby, son of Mrs and the late Mr W. F. Bramwell, of Feilding, m the Gisborne Methodist Churcli on Thursday. The ueremony was performeii by Canon Paeke, and Mr E. N. Sidebottom presided at the organ. The attendant hridesmaids were Misses Nancye Ballantyne (chief), Hazel Bramwell, of Feilding, Valda, Zachariah, and Marjorie ClilF, of Hastings. The bridegroom was supported by Mr Leslie Bramwell, of Feilding, and Messrs G. Mackay (Wellington), L. McWilliains, ancl S. Williams fulfilled the. duties of groomsmen. After tbe ceremony abont 200 guests assembled at Le Grand Lounge, where the Lride's parents entertained them _ in a very hospitable manner. Later in the afternoon the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymonn, which is to be spent touring the North Island. Dr. Ezer Griffiths. F.R.S., and thrOe assistants arrived 111 Auckland yesterday for tlie purpose of carrying out a comprehensive investigation into cool stovage problems relating to tbe marketing of produce abroad. Dr. Griffiths, who is prineipal assistant fn the physics department of the Natioual Phvsical Laboratory at Teddington, Middlesex, has a world-wide reputation as an authority on temperatures and hnmiclity. Dr. E. Marsden, Director of the Department of Scientific and Indnstrial Research, and Mr J. Praser, manager of the Meat Proclucers' Boarcl, met Dr. Griffiths and his party, consisting of Dr. J. R. Yickery, Mr R. R. Haddow and Mr N. Holmes, the last named of whom lias been loaned from tlie Australian Department of Scientific Research. After meeting the heads of tbe various freezing works in Auckland, Dr. Griffiths is to leave on Monday night for Wellington where a meeting will be beld to finalise the programme of his investigations. The H011. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Justice, wbo bas beeu appointed by the Governor-General to hold tbe office of Kiiig's Counsel, lias had an intetesting career. He passed as solicitor at the age of eighteen years, and sei-v-ed his apprenticeship in the office of Messrs A. ancl C. Brandon ; he practised his profession first of all in company with the late'Mr W. T. L. Travers. Mr Wilford has been connected: with most of the important Court criniinal trials and divorce actions in "Wellington and surrounding districts, notable instances being the Ellis case, the Boslier case, tlie Moghan case, tlie Henderson case, tlie Etliel ringing-in case, the May Hallet case_. the Priscilla and Thonias Hackett trial, and the Cooper murder case. His first big case, in which he may be said to liave made his name, was the Soler divorce action, in which he was opposed hy Mr E. G. Jellicoe and the late Sir Charles Skerrett. For twentv-five years Mr Wilford acted as eounsel for the TTnion Steam Ship Company. atid he has had long experience in shipping law and all jury work.
