'ALLEGED THEFT FROM ROWING CLUB. CAMPERS' EXPENSES COLLECTED BUT NOT PAID.
WELLINGTON This day. When liis name was called at the court yesterday, Frederick George Yon Slyke charged with tlie theft of £2 12s 6d from tliS AVellington Rowing Club, did not appear. The chief detective explained that accused was a memher of a eamping party from the rowing club which incurred £2 12s 6cl in expenses. Accused, it was alleged, had colleeted the moiiey, but did not pav the account. After several requests, either to pay the account or return the monev, whicli were without success, the matter hacl been put in tlie hands of tbe police. Accused. who had beeu transferred to Palmerston Nortli, npparently considered the matter a civil one, for instead of appearing to ihe summons he had seut the monev that morning. Remarking that he could not deal with the case in acc-used's absence, the Magistrate adjourned . the case for .a week for accused to appear. If he did not do so he would be arrested.
