TO BE CUT DQWN IX PALMERSTOX RESIDENTS TAKE STROXG ACTIOX
PALMERSTOX X., This day. Following an unavailing protest by the chairman, the reserves committee of the Borough Council decided this week to cut down the trees in the streets 'where tarsealing had been laid from kerb to kerb, owing to tlie liability on the council in case of accidents through motorists striking tliem. The work was commenced this morning, whereupon a number of ladies and other local residents entered a strong protest to the -workmen who were the subject of uncomplimentary references. A deputation waited on the Mayor and protested against the removal of the- trees in very strong terms, and tlie Mayor undertook to again go into the matter. The trees are fine specimens of sycamores, oaks and chestnuts, planted 30 vears ago.
