Lyon suggested tliat tlio rouncil u'as losing monev by paving for its cartage work by contract a'ud suggested tliat it could be done much. cheaper by the council, purchasing its own lorries and employing its own men. At last night's meeting the engineer, Mr c. e. Evans, suhmitted a. report on the positioti and concluded hy stating that if the road construotion wovk was likelv to proceed at full pvessure over a period of say 10 years. it would probahly pav the conncil to procnre it« own trnpks. hnt when thore are period = when the worlc is not heing earried out. and the price is ar, low as obtnining at present, the work would he hettpr done by contract, calling npon the contrnrtor onlv as vequired. This report was adoptcd and no alteration will he madc at present in the carting arrangements.
