taumarunui, This day. a fire at three o'clock this morning at Owhango resulted in the destructiou of three buildings. The fire comnienced at the rear oi the Commercial Hotel, an 18-roomed huilding. and spread rapidly to an ad.joining empty sliop and dwelling of five rooms and to a six-roomed dwelling, occupied by Mr a. Johnston. In the absence of a water supply and fire-fighting appliance$ the three premises mentioned were totallv destroyed. The hlaze spread so rapidly that Mr Johnston escaped with onlv a few personal eft'ects. The hotel was unoccupied and was being renovnted.
