Shearing by electric power is steadily growing m favour in the Centvl Hawke's Bay Power Board area. During October five fresh electriealiydnven shearing plants were mstalled in the area, making 74 now m use. Steadily Growing. It was reported at to-day's meetirg of tlie Central Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board that 117 electric ranges were now in use in the board's area, whilst 183 electric _ hot- water services were in use. Milkiiig is being done by electric energy on 68 dairy ^tarras. Athletic Meetmg. The Waipawa Ahiateur Athletic and Cvcling C'lub should have opened the piesenfc season with a night portsmeeting, but, unfortunately, the weather proved uutavourable and it iiad to be abandoned. The weather nras showery most of the day, byt at oue time the sun shone out and tlie officials were hopefui of being able to held the meetmg, but tbwards five O'cloek heavy rain started to fail and it was decided to postpone it. The meeting will take plrtce next Tuesday evening if the weather perniits. "Laugh Clown, Laugh." ® Herbert Breuoli, the director of "Beau Geste" and "Sorreli and Sofi,'' was cliosen to direct that great character actor, Lon Chfiney. in "Laugh OJown, Laugh," which will be screened on Tierney's circuit this week. There was a good attendance at the fcrtnigbtly meeting of ;the Waipawa J yuids' Lodge Jield on Wednesday night. The members of the district Ifcyal Arch Chapter pa'd an ofHeiil visit and were received with the cusstomary honours. When the ordinary iodge business was completed a meetmg of the Chapter was held, wlien sc veral of the local officers hitd the past arch degree conferred on them. Afc the close of ihe meeting fi upper was served followed by a very pleasaat social hour.

It's thrillful, tearful, laughful, jiist like "McFfidden's Elats," but much. better. Then eomes the sixth chapter of "Tarzfm," "The Fiery Pit." Hex Ingram's United Artists iiroduction of C'osmo Hamilton's "The Three Passions," which will be presented at ihe Waipukurau Theatre tomonrow night is as striking a. piece of work that this director has ever giveil us. "Wliile entirely difl'erent from any of liis earlier achievements it is the firsb picture in wliicii the creatbr of "The Eoiil* Horsemen," "Scaramouche," and "Tlie Prisoner _ of Zenda," has told his story against British backgrbunds. It Iias more to recommend it than its picforial oidginality yet its studies of London life are fascinating. They* jnclude the fashionable West End and the sordid East End, and there is real draifia in bdth settings. Then there are glimpses of life at Oxford University. A proposal to form a golf elub at Taupo was enthusiasticaJly endorsed at a public meeting held iu that townsliip last night. It wa.s pointed out that a. golf course would improve the attractioiis of Taupo, and it Was thonghfc t'liat it would be witlely used, not only hy residents, hut also by tourisis and their wives. The chainnan, Mt- H. L. Newdick, oullinetl a scheme for the provision of links about a mile and a. half from the town as a first step towards providing Taupo with a children's playgrouiid. tea kiosk, tennis grounds aiid croquet lawn. The meetmg expressed the hope that Hawke's Bay people who are interested in Talipd Wohld assist to make the movement a success. It was stated that the fifaancial aspect Was assured.
