CO-OPERATION AND INTER-CLUB SPIRIT.

"INTERESTED."

(To the Editor.) h Sir,— O11 tlie evc of tbe opening o^ •- tlie swimining season in tlns district, 1 woulcl ' like to appeal tlirougb your valuable coluiiius, to the members and. executiveij of tbe various swiniming ciubs, for a better understanding and ' greater co-operation between clubs. Tbe club' spirit earried to a certain degree is a fine tbing; but in many cases clubs bave, to be concise, adopted a "cut tbroat" attitude, to tbe greqt detriiiient of tlie spcrt as a wbole. It is only by cultiv^jing in members (and es]iecially tbe yuunger members of our clubs) tliat seuse of co-operation and true sportsmanship, that we can hope to ])lace tlie "cleanest of all sports" 011 the pedestal tbat it ricbly deserves. I would ask tliose responsible for tlie governnient of clubs, to look back a fpv years and note tlie great interclnb spirit tbat then existecl, and also if it would not be for tlie great advancenient of tlie sport, if we got back to tbe conditions tliat tlien existecl. To tliose clubs under tbe stvle of life-saving clubs, I woulcl make a further appeal, and ask for greater efforts, at perhaps great inconvenience to those responsible for 'tbe organising, etc. Think of tlie good tbat must aoerue! Tbe. death s by drowning 111 tbe Dominion and especially in our own province, are far too nunierous. and to a certain extent can be kept down by all clubs - again co-operating and condueting j swimming and life-saving elasses. One club last year earried ont an intensive "Learn to Swim" campaign, and T trust tbat all clubs will do tbe same this year. and make tbe whoffi season n "Learn to Swini" oue. Thanking you, sir, for tbe use of your columnt and trusting fiomp abler pen tban minfli will follow on. — I am. etc..
