JOTTINGS DAY BY DAY.
The finisli of the .Kew Zealand Cup meeting wilL be to-morrow, for that is tlie name generally applied . te the Spring meeting of the Canterbury Joclcey Club. * * * The acceptances received iu the major i number of instances are not of tbe j bulky description, tbe event which has been most liberally patronised by owjiers being the Seymour Handicap, of seven furlongs, for which 25 have bcen listed. * * 4: The disappointmenfc from the numcrical point of outlook are the acceptances for the principal evenb of tlie afternoon, for which five have paid j up, and oue of these. in Admiral Drake, has a prior engagement. Three of the quintette are three-year-olds, Honour, Admiral Drake, and Eaglet. * * * With the pace ihat the Derby winner has got he should be aljle to make Historic and Pride carrv their loads all the way, and considering that the former lias to give Honour 19 pounds, and Chide lia.s to allow him 16 pounds, it would appear as if Mr Greenwood's i representative has a possibdity of giving his owrier another nlacing as tlie owner of the winner of the G. G. Stead j Memorial Gold Cup, which was recovded in his favour by Gloaming, wlio. like Honour, liad succeeded in tlie Derby at the same gathering. * 5fc The race is in favour of a good three-year-old, and cerfcainly, in a measure. Hononr can lay claim to come nnder that description, as he ran third in the A..T.C'. Derby to Phar Lap and Carradale, who fnrthev on proved that they were the best of their age in Australia hv repenting their performance in ihe elassic at Randwick, in their essays in the Y.R.C. Detby. * * * In tlie past three-year-olds in the G. G. Stead. Memorial Gold Cup have had the most to say in regard to winning the race, for out of the 21 rompetitions that have heen recorded, in half a score of instances three-year-olds were returned the winners. six of them in "Bon Reve, Desert Gqld, The Toff, Gloaming, Winning Hit and Runnymede hcing Derby winners at the fixture. * * * Tt is interesting to note that only on a counle of occasions has _a New Zealand Cup winner prevailed in the Stead Memorial Gold Cup. Warsten and Sasanof heiug i-esponsible fnr the performance. but it was only in the case of the latter that the double win was cbroiiicled at the same meeting, V arstep having nrevailed Ihe season prior to her deaa-heat for first place in the Ncw Zealand Cup. ^ * Contestants who may come in for solid patronage to-morrow are: — Port Cooper Hurdles— Pangolin, Ivapuna, Amorist. _ _ _ Cressy Handicap. — Roi de \al, Koyal Saxon, Taboo. Pioneer Handicap.— Praise, Tea Party, Sleipner. Members' Handjcap. — Gold Uure, Great Star, Arrow Lad._ Seymour Handicap, Richfield, Make "Up, Vali. Stonyhurst Handicap. — Count Palatine, Jaleux, Night Lad. Fendalton Handicap. — Rabhi, Wlute Fang, Panther. G. G. Stead Memorial Gold Cup. — Honour. * * * Honour and Eaglet. winner of the Xew Zealand Derby and Oak Stakes, are amongst those still standing in the list for the Great Xortliern Derby, which ivill come up for^competition at the Summer Meeting of tlie Auckland Racing Club, Mr G. D. Greenwood, owner of Honour, has supplied • the winner of the event on_ three occasions with Danube, Cberubini and Gloaming. Like Honour. Clierubini and Gloaming had previonsly captured the New Zealand Derby. ^ * * Mr F. Earl, owner-breeder of Eaglet, has so far not had his name enrolled upon the winning register iu regard to the race. It is eight years since one of Eaglet's sex succeeded in the event, Enthusiasm being the one who effected the annexation. * * * Followers of racing will have a strennous time during the coming week, as during that time tliere will be seven days of racing to claim their atteution. Mondav will see. the concluding day of the Spring meeting of tlie Waikato Racing Club in operation, Wednesda.y and Tliursdny the Spring venture of the Otaki Racing Club, and the annual reunion of the Winton Jockey Club will he held, and on Saturday the annual fixture of the Levin Racing Club will take place, as will the first day of the vcarlv fixture of the Te Kuiti Racing Club.' * * * Acceptances for the Levin Racing Club and Te Kuiti Racing Club should be available to-morrow, * * * Eor a horse who has been as snccf .sful as Cliide it is wonderful the light ainoimfc of racing that he has done. for up to date his three seasons on the racing path have been confined to fourteen contests. in which he has won upon eight of his effoi'ts; with a second and thiiqT. placing, having been unplaced in four of In's essays, three times as a two-vear-old and once as a three-year-old. * * * Tn addition to hreeding Cliide, G. AJnrrav Aynsley also bred his fullbrother. Meprisant, who this season lias won two events, tlie Trial Plate. five furlongs, at tlie Spring meeting of the Ashburton Racing Club, and the Dunedin Guineas, one mile. He was not started last season. * * * Nightmarch is due to ■'sbortlv arrive hack in the land of his birth. The hero of the Australian tour is engaged in the Auckland Cup. It will not be a difficult matter to propliecy wlio will be tlie top of the poll in the weiglit adjustment for the event. * * * Tliere liave been some steadiers in tlie way of poundage borne by winners of the two mile race at Ellerslie, the honour of having carried the liighost weiglit to victory resting with Nelson, who, when he scored liis third consecutive success, had 9st. 121b. on board. * «• * At that time the distance of the race was miles. Since it has been run over two miles Rapine holds the wreath in tlie matter of poundage carried by a victor, for when he prevaihd in 1925 he had 9st. 81b in the saddle. * * * Handjicaps for the Auckland Cup are not due until the 4th. of next month. * * * T. Webster, who got so severelv injured while riding at tbe New Zealand Cup meeting which caused him to he operated on for a bruised kidney, which was removed, is now stated to , be out of danger.
