RENOVATION OF PANELS

HOW TO. CLEAN EB0N1TE. .Tt is unfortunate tbat many ebonite pnnels, whilo oxeellent in appearance wlien new, suffer considerably by exposure to sunliglit. The examination of a pancl wliicli lias been placed in strong light for a eonsiderable period will sliow a kind of powdeiw surface in place of the original gloss, wliile a greenish tint takes the place of the jet bl.ack which loolcs so well when the panel was first boufilifc. Mere dusting or mbbing the surface is generally insufficient to restore its "bloom of youth,'1 so other methods are necessary. A procedure wliicli is most convenient is as follows: — First of all make sure tliat nothing will he liarnied in the set by turning the cahinet sb that the panel is placed horizontal, 'and then remove the diak so as to expose as much as possible of the ebonite surface. Now take a dry, clean duster and rub the panel vigorously all orer. This will remove a good deal of the powdery substance (which is often free sulphur).

Next take oue of the kitchen soaps not intended to wash clotlies, such as Brookes' Monkey Brand, and clean the panel carefully, using as far as possible^a straight-line inotion, rubbing leifgthwise on the panel. Wlien tliis preliminary cleaning is finished, dry the panel thoroughly and then finish it off with a good motor' car polisli of a kind free from wax, which tencls to leave a smeary surface. Do not he tempted to finish off an old panel by rubbing it with oil, as while this gives.a temporary black appearance it will soon pass away and the final result will be worse than ever.
