CIVIC FAREWELL TO THE GOVERNOR.

(To the Editor.) Sir,- — It is to be hoped that his Worsliip the Mayor, _ if ever called upon again as cliief citizen to officiate at a farewell luncheon to a departing Governor, will refrain from commonplace flattery. Y7e expect something more fitting on an occasion such as this. It was evident that neither Sir Charles, or Lady .Fergusson, appreciated a compliment that reflected on their predecessors. We have been fortunate in having had many c'iistinguished _ men representing His Majestv the King in the Dominion. who, with tlieir wives, liave rendered great service, botli to the Empire and this country. and endeared themselves with all ciasses. Our departing G'overnor was _ apparently more conversant with this fact tban
the Mayor. — I am, etc.
