WOOL VALUES

Per Presa Association.

OPENING SALE AT WANGANUI. FIRM ON NAPIER PRICES.

WANGANUI. Last niglxt. The first Wanganui wool sale of the 1929-30 season rvas held to-day and a catalogue of 8700 bales was submitted to a record bencb of buyers. Over ninety per cent of the offering was eold at prices 011 a par and to sonio exteut firm on those realised at the Wellington and Napier Saies. The bulk of the offering went to Continental markets, Germany taking tlie major share. Bradford was bidding freely at reduced limits. The greater portion of the offering comprised wools from dry sheep and there was a reflection of tho season's indifferent •weather in tho general appearance and condition. Corupared witli prices realised at the closing saies last year, there was a drop manifest ranging from l-kl to 3d. Eine "wools were down to a greater extent than coarser counts. In sonie Instances tvooI passed at the end of last season at 15d to I6d eold to-day at lld to 12d, thus indicating a feeling on the growers' part that the market is uncertain. Prices and bellies met -with a good demand, but a small offering of ear.Iy shorn lambs was hard]y enquired after. Bidding was animated, the prices considering the qunhty df the wool, being firm on tliose realised at Wellington and Napier. The bulk of the growers met the market and a fair proportion of tliose duhious at first did business a'iterwards at thc market figure. Taken as a whole, the sale rnusfc he considered entU'ely satisfocfory on present market values. Shabby elips in some cases were dearer than axxticipated.
