Stanley Warwick and the Waipukurau artists who are associated with him, successfully staged "The Mau from Toronto" at the Pukeora Sanatorium. The comedy was greatly enjoyed. Shearing Held Up. Very lieavy rain fell in the Waipukurau district yesterday afternoon, accompanied by a decuded drop in the temperature. Shearing operations will be held up for a eouple of days as a consequeiice of the downpour. Break in the Weather, The usual mid-week break in the weather took jilace in YVaipawa yesterday. Heavy rain commenced to f all in tlie afternoon thus putting an end to all out-door sports. There was a drop in the temperature and it hecame colder towards evenmg. Baby Queen Carnival. Waipukurau is in the throes of a baby queen carnival, having for its objecb the raising of monoy to enable the buildiug of a Women' s JLlest and Plunket room to be proceeded with at the Hunter Memorial Park. The carnival will be continued until March. The positions of the contestants at present are: — Waipukurau Town Baby, 12,744 votos; Hatuma baby, 11,094; Porangahau Maori baby, 3307 ; Wanstead-Wal-lingford baby, 2SS0. Cricket. The following teams have been chosen to represeut Waipukurau and Old Boys' cricket teams m their matcli at Russell Park on Saturday : — Waipukurau : T. Southall, W. Phillips, J. G. Stewart, Mitcalfe, N. Nelson, T. Wallace, B. W. Bo.vs, G. ICuru, N. C. Wyiie, I. W. N. Mackie and W. T. Ixuru. Reserves : W. Culling, F. Culling. Old Boys : W. Rickey, C. Crock er, I. Cameron, T. Spencer, G. S. Rickey, E. A. Polhill, R. Guy, L. J. McCarthy, F. E. Polhill, J. Anderson, 1). Smales, and C. J. Williams. Waipawa Show. The ladies who held a stall at the Waipawa flower show for the purpose of raising funds for the dental clinic, are vei-y pleased witli the result of their efforts as there will be a profit of about £30 to hand over to the funds. The winners of the various competitions were : — Torch, Dlaster E. Mackay_; pot holders, Mr J. H. Hill ; stationery, Mre Eurminger; handkerchief sachet, Mrs Eagle ; sweets, Mr Hunt; bicycle tyre, Master Collett ; picture, Dlrs Stokes ; cake, Mr h. Oarne ; table cover, Mrs Stevens. Waipawa Library. There was but a moderate attendance at the annual ineeting of the subscribers to the Waipawa Citizens' Library. The chairman, Ml- H. Fletcher, presided. The acting secretary stated that he liad written to the late secretary, Mr O. McLeod, in reference to handing over the books and furnishing a statement of accounts, but had receivcd no rcply. The election of officers for the current year rcsulted as follows : — Chairman, Mr G. H. Hunt; secretary, Mr FI. Fletcher; eorumittee, Mrs J. Corsbie, Mrs L. Davv, Miss M. A. Balfour ; Messrs J. H. Hill, C. E. G. Harker and F. Holt. Authority was given the chairman and secretary td sigu cheques. It was resolved to send a letter of sympathy and appreciation to the relatives of the late librarian, Mrs Rennett. Mrs E. Mahei' was appointed to the position of librarian.

Successful Staging, At the Waipukurau Municipal Theatre last evening Mr A. Stanley Warwick, assisted by local artists, successfully staged the three- act comedy, "The Man from Toronto." Mr Warwick as Fergus Wimbush displayed ability that met with great apprecation by the large audience present. Miss Gladys Major, in the dual role oi' "Leila Calthorpe" and "Polly Perltihs," the parlourmaid, did excellently, whilst Miss Rita Smith courageou^ly essayed the task of portrayin,^ "Ruth Wimbush." Miss Ola Limbrick scored a hit as 'Ada Wimbush," meeting well all the demands which the part called for. Miss Dulcie Williams, as "Mrs Hubbard," carried out a diffichlt part admirably, whilst Miss Isobel Cairns poi'trayed the part of a "Cook-general" as though to the manPer born. Messrs G. L. Chatwin and J. Boyce both came through their parts witli great credit. MaH Car Accident. The Otane mail car met with a mishap on the Kairakau hill on Tuesday. M.r R. Rumhal, the eontractor, was descending the hill, and on rounding a sliarp bend found himself almost head-on to a heavily-laden Ioit.v, the ongine of which at the moment stalled, thus rendering the lorry helpless to move to its corrccfc side. Mr Rumhal was faced with the problem of crushing into the lorry, or of endeavouring to nvoid it by passing on tlie narrow width of road between it and the low side. The lorrv was successfully passed,, but tlie side of the road failed to hold the heavy car with the result that it skidded sideways _ down tlie bank for somo distance without capsizing. A little furtlier momentum or slope of the liank would have eaused a capsize. Assistance was procured and the car put on the road again undamaged. In spite of the accident the inails arrived back at Otane up to time. Golf Glub The annual general meeting of the Takapau Golf Club was held on Tuesday night, when there was a good attendance of members. Mr G. S. White, captain, was voted to the chair. The report and balanc-e shect were read and showed the club to be in a veiy liealtliy position, after one of the most miccessful yeaes. The following officers were elected for tlie ensuing year :• — Patroness, Mrs S. Johnstonj pl'csident, Mr H. W. White; vice-presidents, Mr C. H. St. Hill, Mrs A'Deane and Mrs Holden; captain, Mr G. Cuthbertson, Mrs Hohson and Miss Robbins; handicapper, Mr E. F. Stubbs ; green supervisers, Messrs M. McDonald, J. O'Dowd and J. Smith ; auclitor, Mr W. Cntlihertson. Votes of thanks were tendered to Mrs A'Deane,, Mrs Holden, C. H. St. Hill, IT. W. White and G. S. White for eup donations.
