The balconv, wliere all the sidishows will be at the Hastings Carnival being lield in the Assembiv Hall ne-ct Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and 011 Saturday morning, wll be closed in with tarpaulins kiui'y lent by a Napier citizen. Also, hy ti.e wa 3*, the Napier Citizens' Band will Pe taking part, musicallv and otherwise, on Saturday afternnon and evening. Other Napier people liave given generous lielp. and Hastings liopes to leturn their kindness. To get back to the tarpaulins. Hav ing them means that tlie carniva"! sidesliows will go on whether it is wet or fine. Tliey are a fine lot, and splendid prizes are being ofi'ered at all of tliern. The cabnret will not, of course, be afiected by the weather, and will be lield from teti till twelve everv night, will be there on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Tlie cliarges are almoit uething, the Hoor perfeet, and niu r.c will be pla.ving all the time. Santa C'laus aiul liis Christmas Tree will be there 011 Friday and Saturd-.y afternoons and evenings. 'Ikas, ices, suppers. and the great magician's displa.v will be on ofl'er all tlie time ihe carnival is open. Tlie dozon or so stalls also will ge open till a late liour eacli evening, and will be loaded with sweets. toys, cli*'dren's garments, cakes, neddleiyork oi every kind, aud a score of different sorts of articles at great bargam prices. Tliev will be a great attraction in themselves. A fancy-dress torchlight processron will be lield eaeh evening, Jcaving Ingram's store at 7 p.m., and maro iing, hehind the hand down Heretaunga street. The band itself, with a coup'e of eoncert parties will provide the procession on Thursday. The band promises tliree davs of the best fun Hastings has ever had, and will keep its promise. " Ynlue for e\ ery penny spent" will be tlieu motto. The carnival. whicli is under the patronage of ITis XVorship tlie Xlayor, 'Xlr G. F. Roacli) aud Mr H. M. Campbell, M.P., will open at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday. Late buses run to Havelock ea.li evening, and there's a free coucert eacli evening. Entr.v to the hall is ahsoiutelv free all the time.
