CRASH AT LEVEL CROSS1NG. CHILDREN SEVERELY INJURED.

ASHBURTON, This day. The most serious level crossing accideut for some time occurred last evening, resulting in Alan Cookson, aged 16, being taken to hospital with iiead injuries, a broken collar-bone and internal injuries, ancl Jack Cookson, aged nxne, a brother of Alan, suffering a broken leg 'and severe shoek. Reginald Finlay, aged seven, suffered a broken tliigh aud head injuries. Alan Cookson was driving tlie car, whicli also contained Muriel Finlay, aged five, wlien it was struck by an incoming train at an angle in tlie rear, being carried 30 yards. Alan was pinned under the car and released with difficulty. Jack was thrown into a fairly deep stream. being carried through a culvert about two cliains long and managyng to crawl out on to a lawn. The two Finlay children were tlirown clear, tlie girl eseaping with a few cuts and hruises. Alan Cookson and Rea Finlay are in a serious condition. The two Coohsons are the sons of Xlr P. Cookson, Grey street. The Finlay's father is Xlr J. Finlay of Aitken street. The car, owned by Mr Cookson, is a total wreok.
