DUNEDIN, This day. The first of the Dunedin wool saies opeiied this morniug to a full bench of buyers. A catalogue of 20,000 bales was otfered, the wool generally being up to the average. The sale opened ivitli priees firm at late rates and sliowed a tendency to aliglitly favour the sellers, due appaventlv to the lighter eondition of the wooi and better lnilf-bred wools than at Timaru. Crosshreds and Mevinos sold at about par ivitli Timaru. Tliere was a big drop compared with the first sale here last year, in some cases the reduction being as mucli as 1 Od . 1 The best price obtained at tlie opening was Ifid for hoggets, Merinos brougbt lod, balfbreds and hoggets lod. aiul superfine ewe wool lo^d. Pieces were selling exceptionall.v well, thcre being good competition for tbem, as usual, by Continental lmyers. Necks brougbt from lOd to 12 jd.
