ENJOYABLE CONCERT
FRIVOL1TY MINSTRELS AT BAY VIEW. BIOST SUCCESSFUL FOR YEARS. Last night, at Bay View, a packed house greeted the Napier "Frivs," who had gone out to give to the residents what proved to be the most enjoyable entertainment held in King George's Hall for a very long time. The company submitted a programme of twenty-oiie items ai-ranged in such a manner as to maintain the very apparent interest and pleasure derived from the efforts of the performers. Mr F,. T?. Mnrnliv in "Tlimr'-ra All
After Me," and "Flappers," captured his audience, who expressed its appreciation by prolonged applause. Songs were rendered by Mr Roy Girling and Mr McKeclinie in a very able manner, while Mr T. Cross, in his comic songs, deservedly won general approval of the most entliusiastic nature. Mr N. Gray delighted his hearers with the speecli, "Monty." This item was one of a rather unusual nature, thcrtigh particularly entertaining and cleverly done. Mr W. Ireland and Mr W. Quarry, as comedians, distinctly proved that tliey were fully up to the high standard as set by the other performers. "On the Road to Mandalay," and "Sergeaut Major" were two vocal items rendered in a masterly way by the ever popular Mr Berfj Ziegler, of Ohurakura. Mr Hawke, in the dance, "Frivolity Sal;" gave further variety to the entertainment. His effort was particularly well received. s The company very cleverly staged two items; one a farce, entitled "Distractions, and the otlier "School's In." In the latter, Mr P. Spiller very capably took the part of the school master who endured the trials and difficulties of a troublesome class. "The "Frivs" orchestra was present m full force, and their musical contributions no doubt were, to a large degree, responsible for the undoubted success of the whole entertainment. Towards the conclusion, Mr Philiips, chairman of the Esk View School committee, publicly commended the" fine public spirit which characterised tke members of the Frivolity Minstrels, a body which had always come forward to help in wortliy objects. To those patrons who had attended so well, lie extended, on behalf of the school committ,ee, his sincere gratitude.
Mr Wilkie, for the Minstrels, responded, stating that he deeply appreciated the manner in which sucli a large audience liad received the. per-. formers. He mentioned that it was at Eskdale where the Frivs had given their first entertainment over forty years ago. Since then they had endeavoured to serve in giving the people value by their entertainments, which had resulted in a sum of about £8000 being raised for distribution to the various local bodies whom it had always been a pleasure for them to assist. It was not until 10.45 that the final item terminated a most creditable and entertaining performance. At the conclusion, the wives of the members of the school committee very kindly provided supper for the party, for which Mr Spiller. on the performers' behalf, expressed thanks.
