Mr Charles Purnell_ Pgrkerson, the New Zealander who is (lying to New ■ Zealand, has been delayed in starting owing to bad weather. 12^ k°pes to leave Lympne on March Mr Charles Purnell Parkerson, the Auckland airman who plans to fly from London to Sydney and then on to Auckland, is about 50 years of age, and is well known in Auckland business eircles. For many years lie was a keen enthusiast of flying, and although having^ not actually jpiloted a 'plane while in New Zealand he had many flying hours to his credit as a passenger in the Wigi'am Aerodrome machines. He had always shown considera'ble keenness to attempt a flight from England to New Zealand in a light 'plane lonehanded, but the question or finance had always proved a stumbling hlock. His opportunity came ahout five months ago, however, when he was sent home on behalf of the Auckland Flax Company to carry out some business. On his arrival in England he immediately set out to qualify as an "A" pilot and it was on ChrisU mas Day that fiis brother, Mr R. LParkerson, received a cable from him to the effect that he had successfully got through the test for his. ticket and intended to make immediate preparations for th.e big flight. Educated at Ashburton and Temuka in the South Tsland, . Mr Parkerson, on leaving school, entered the photography business, and as a free lance ibecame well known thro.ughout both islands, For some time he carried on business iq Rotorua, and later came to Auckland, where he resided with his brother, Mr Parkerson eventuelly gave up the photography business, and joined the firm qf Booth, Macdonald. For nearly five years he travelled, the Auckland and North Auckland d'istricte as a salesman of farm impleinensj later to become manager oFBooth, Macdonald's Hamilton branch. He is married.
