BYRD IN DUNEDIN Fun With The Talkie Men lWHOLE PARTY ASHORE.
DUNEDIN, This day. "A 11 Admiral Byrd's South Polar party are ashore to-day. The Admiral is busy returningofficial visits and attending the Harbour Board luncheon. The Paramount Pictures cameramen left for Wellington, en route to U.S.A. At the wharf yesterday two Sydney camera men fitted up a "talkie" apparatus to reeord the first words of Admiral Byrd, hut the leader was too alert to say even "Halloa." However, they ran a line across the ■wharf and the second man asked Admiral Byrd to make a few remarks, liaving the microphone tucked under his coat. Admiral Byrd expressed regret that he was bound by contracts and could not speak, so the fikn-men sucoeeded in getting a short remark.
