TRJKiN lilAM, Tliis day. Excellent weather favoured the marksmen at Trentham this morning when the second stage of the army champfonship was proceeded with. The competitors marched away punctually from the squadding posts but delay at

tne mounds w_as occasioned through the targets heing enveloped in mist. Tlie first practiee at 600' yards, deliberate,, opened the shooting, the initial detail having a slight disadvantage of light. The second practice, 600 to 700 yards fire, with movement, proved strenuous. There were five 45 seconds target exposures at 500, 400, 300, 200 and 100 yards respectively, the firing positions being prone, kneeling and standing, ac.cording to distance, the advance being a^ the double. > The best aggregate was that of Lieutenant T. Denton, Air Force, of 41^ out of a possible 50, who was a Kihg's medallist in 1927, but is ineligi'ble for the belt, which is only open to the active list of the territorial force. Visitors commented on the excellent physique'of the competitors, whose conduct is exemplary. This afternoon the ehampion shot will be linown when the final practices of this series, 300 yards rapid. and 300 yards snapshooting in the open will be completed.
