THE 28-ACRE BLOCK
QUESTION OF SUB-DTVISION PLANS. COUNCIL ASKED TO EXPEDITE DECISION. The question of the sub-division of the 28-acre block, which it receptly roclaimed adjacent to the Tutaekuri river was discussed at the meeting of the Napier Harbour Board to-day. It was stated in a letter from the Napier City Couneil that the matter of the femoval of the cottages owned hy Mr C. 0. Morse was in the hands of a committee which was hoping to obtain from the representatives of the syndicate the amount of compensation ■required. Mr A. E. Jull said that the whole of the sub-division and the pntting of the land on the market was held. np because the council did not seem able to decide if it was going to move the cottages. If the cottages were not moved the sub-division plan would have to be substantially altered to permit of streets going through. Mr P. Higgings asked if the board woud bear half the cost of the remoyal 'and cdmpenSatiori assumed at the conr ferenee hetween-* the two bodieg aa. & basis of negotiation. " Mr Jttll;-I am not going to allow discussion on that. What we want to know is are the cottages to be moved? Mr Higgins pointed out that about £2000 compensation would have to he ' paid. If the board was not prepared to pay half then it had better go on with the present sub-division. Mr J. H. Joll : Well, I think the cottages should go to imprOve the alignment of the streets and impreve the town. There is no doubt it is the keytown of the province, and we must help it. But whatever we do, let's get on, and not hold up the opening of the block. It was decided to ask the Napier City Comicil to expedite its decision in rdgard to th.e removal of the cottages. Mr Higgins assured the board that the council was doing all it could at present to expedite the decision.
