AUSTRALIAN BEHIND HAWKE'S BAY RUNNERS. ATHLETIC MEETING AT DANNEVIRKE. There was somewhat "bf a seneatiou ac the Dannevirke Athletic Club's sports yesterday afternoon, when the Australian quarter-mile champion, G. Golding, failed to secure a place in bhis e'vent, T. Kerr, of Dannevirke, off 37 yards being first, A. O. Bird (Napier) 20 yards second, and L. Eddy (Hastings) 14 yards, third. The _winner's time was 48 3-5 and Golding's 49. Kerr also won tlie 220 and 100 yards handicap. The ladies' races resulted : — 75 yards, final. — Miss Tong (Hastings) 1, Miss Doherty (Napier) 2, Miss Henderson (Hastings) 3. Time, 8 3-5secs. 120 yards. — Miss Martin (Napier) 10 yards, 1; Miss Tong (Hastings), 11 yards, 2 ; Miss Proctor (Napier) 11 yards, 3. Time, 13 4-5secs. 100 yards. — Miss N. Wilson (Gisborne), scr., 1 ; Miss Proctor, 8yds., 2; Miss Martin, 8yds., 3. Time, 11 2-5secs. Ladies' relay race for Annie Holden Cballenge Cup. — Retained_ by Napier who easily defeated Hastings. Time, 53secs.
