ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF H.B. DISTRICT, BIG GATHERING AT CLIVE. The annual conference of delegates to the Hawke's Bay Independent Order of Oddfellows, Manchester Uhity, was held at Clive yesterday, when a /t'ull board of representatives was -presided over hy - Grand Master Bro. E. Hurdsfield. District officers also present were : D.D.G.M., Bro. N. J. McKay, D.Sec., Bro. W. G.. Martin and D.Tres., Bro. J. P. Williamson. Minute Sec. P.D.G.M., Bro. L. A. Krogh. Delegates frohi Napier, Meanee, Abbotsford, Clive, Tarnstock, Hastings, Woodville, Ruahine, Forest Home, - Dannevirke, Te Reinga and Takapau Lodges totalled 45. After' roll call Mr T. Burns, chairman of the Clive Progressive Society on behalf of the Clive residents,_ extencled a hearty welcome to the viistors and wislied them every snccess in their deliberations. The Grand Master delivered an addi'ess covering his period _ of office, fcravei;sing many points, of interest to Oddfellows and hearing on Friendly Society matters. Bro. Hinxlsfield cong.ratulated the district on its continued advancement and expressed the pleasure he had received by the cordial treatment and hearty co-operation of lodge members, secretaries, officers and district offieer and management gommittee. The Grand Master dealt with OddfelloAvship from every point of view and finished a stirring address amidst loud applanse. After many memhers had expressed praise of the Grand Master's work during the year a vote of appreciation was passed to Bro. Hurdsfield for his able and instructive address and the same was ordered to he printed with a report of the conference. Telegrams were received from the Auckland and Wellington districts wishing the conference success. A telegram was ordered to be forwarded to Bro. A. P. Bollons, secretary of the Loyal Tavistock Lodge, _ wishing him a speedy recovery from his illness and appreciation of his long and splendid Services to the Order. The district management committee's report was discussed and finally adopted with alterations as decided on by the meeting. The accounts for the district and auditor's reports,, also lodge foook examiner's reports for the year ending November 30, 1929, were also presented and finally adopted after consideration. Also the accounts and returns of lodges in the district. A message of sympathy was despatched to Sister Quigley, of the Dannevirke Lodge, hut now at Hamner, wishing her an early aretnrn to health. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows. Tliree and four ballots being uecessary in many instances : — District Grand Master, Bro. N. J. McKay (Abobtsford) ; Deputy Grand' Master, Bro. P. J. S. George (Hastings); District Management Committee Bro. W. G. Bryce (Leeston), Bro. L. Stein (Dannevirke), Bro. G. McCormick (Hastings); district anditors, Bros. L. A. P. Krogh (Napier), G. Laws (Napier) and Angus (Hastings); district secretary, Bro. W. G. Martm, (Napier); district treasurer Bro. J. P Williamson (Napier) ; Lodge hook examiners", Bros. H. _Bull and W. 'G. Martin (Napier) ; arbitration committee, Bros. H'. Wliitton (Napier), G. D. Love, T. C. Keith, P. J Ptiest W. H. Walker, D. F. Sturm, G. McCormick (Hastings), C. "VVhite (Meanee), E. Gihbard (Dannevirke); clriegates B.M.'O., Bros. N. J. McKay (A^oobtsford), W. G. Martin (Napier) G. HLcCorniick and P. S. George (Hastings;, L. Stein (Dannevirke) and E. A. V . Waite (Ruahine). Various notices of motion were tully discussed and finally disposed of. > It was decided to hold the next ,eonferencoe at Hastings. ... Bro. L. Stein (Dannevirke) »agam presented a gold jeivel to b© awarded _ to the memher in the Hawke's Bay district who initiates the greatest number of memhers into his lodge.— Accepted wtili thanks. . The conference recorded its appreciation of the long and faithful service of the district treasurer, who completed. 27 years of service. Bro. Williamson' s experience,. energy and able control has heen invaluabie to tiie society. It was decided that the nomination paper for the district he sent to each lodge with the annual return form in November. , Bro. H. S. M. Quigley, who will be the New Zealand Grand Master next year, was extended the compliments ot the conference and thanked for hisuntiring efforts in the interests of Oddfellowship during the past 18 years. The thanks of the delegates was passed to tlie Clive Lodge for the handsome manner in which they had entertained the visitors during the day and evening. 1 At the social gathering after the completion of business the installation of officers was impressively carried out by I.P.D.G.M. Bro. E. Hurdsfield, assisted by P.D.G.M's. Bros. H. J. New ling, H. S. M. Quigley, J. P. Williamson and W. G. Bryce. Tlie delegates were the guests of the Clive Lodge at a dainty afternoon tea and to a dinner in the evenina, for which Mr J. H. Murdoch, of Napier, did the catering.
