ANNUAL MEETING IN ' HASTINGS. STARTING ON SATURDAY. The Hawke's Ba.y Trotting - Cluh's meeting, which will be held at Hastings on Saturday and Monday next is the only trotting meeting held in the province and the success of the elub's previous meetings has alreadv shown that the puhlic has taken kindly to this branch of sport which is fully as exciting and interesting as are the galloping races, and caters for horses of a good stamp. The Hawke's Bay Trotting Club since its ineeption has done much to popularise trotting in this province and it is en- • tirely owing to the splendid way in which the cluh's meetings have been conducted, that the sport of trotting has now reached a stage when the meetings attract an attendance egual to that seen at the race meetings set apart for gallopers. The entries for Saturday's and Monday's events are large and yesterday's racing at Manawatu shows that most of the horses are in form, and the results there should he a guide to investors at Hastings, for mauy of the same horses are > eompeting. The racing each day will start at 12. 15 p.m. A musical programme of unusual excellence will ■ be provided. hy means of Messre O. B. Hansen and Co., Ltd.'s lou4 Bpeakers. The club has wisely decided" to again issue ' ten shilling tickets on the totalisator. ?
