TENNIS CLUB'S SUCCESSFUL ' FETE. IMPROVENG THE GROUNDS. The Haumoana Tennis Club's garden fete was held in perfect weather on Wednesday afternoon. The beautifully laid-out and well-kept grounds were kindly lent for the" occasion by Mr and Mrs C. Scott. The function was opened hy Mr C. J. Baker vice-president of the club. The following were the stall holders : Soft drinks, Mr M. Thomson; produce, Mrs Ritchie, jnr. and Mrs H. K. Thomson; fancy and jumble, Miss Thomson and Mrs Vesty; sweets and cakes, Mrs Dillon, Miss Ives and Mrs Haggerty; afternoon tea, Mrs McCarthy, Mrs Keong, Mrs Somerville, Mrs Castle, 'and Miss Scott. Great interest was evinced in the putting . eompetition and the tennis matches. The success of thev fete was largely due'to the work of the energetic secretary, Mrs H. G. Apperley. The proceeds are to be used for tcpdressing the courts, and if there is any surplus to build a pavilion and generally improve the surroundings. The fete was continued in the evening, the early part being occupied by a party of young Maoris from the Paki Paki Tennis Clnb, and this proved a great success. All the items were thoroughly enjoyed, the singing and voices blending beautifully and the hakas and poi dances being perfectly executed. The following programme was carried out: — Assembled chorus, Ete Ympe ; taiaha display, Pita Mqtiu, song, Mina Harmer and Wi Karii ; douhle poi, Matehaere, Noti, Hukarere ; Huia dance, Dolly Lewis and Mina Harmer; song, "Topi Makima; poi dance ; haka dance, Tahi Mania and Tika Tonu. Mr W. K. Nik'era was manager and Mr J. Russell leader.
