CHICAGO BROADCASTS

.. - ■ v An interesting account of the rebroadcast by 3YA, Christchurch, of the, special programme for New Zealand •listeneirs recently baroadcast by "the. Chicago short-wave station W9XF is given by a writer in a Wellington paper: "There was a fair amount, of static, but the reception was loud and ciear and there was scarcely any iading. The American announcer reported having received word from New Zealand of the excellence of reception. The programme traversed 7500 miles direct from Chicago to Christchurch, and another 180 miles by air-line to Wellington. Those at a distance from 3YA had to withstand two battalions of static. One of these came in with the short-wave reception, and the other arrived with reception of 3YA, Christchurch. The programme comprised vocal and instrumental numbers by performers of marked ability. , The American announcer . advertised the great Chicago Fair to be held in 1933,. The rebroadcasts of the Americans programmes are much appreciated by hundreds or even thousands of New Zealand listeners, who were unable to pick up the American broadcast direct. The Chicago station broadcast attractive information about New Zealand. The music heard from Chicago on short-wave is--also broadcast by WENR, Chicago, 50,000 watts, on a wave-length of 870. kilocycles (352.7 meters.) The slogan of WENR is--"The Voice »of Service." The wave-length is exactly the same as that of 3L0, Melhourne."
