HAWKE'S BAY'S CHAMPION MARKSMEN. RQUSING RECEPTION IN HASTINGS. An excellent reception was accorded the Hastings marksmen who returned on Saturday from the army rifle championships at Trentham, where the Napier and Hastings representatives acliieved great distinction. His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roacli) together with Major A. J. Manson, Lieutenant C. J. S. George. Lieittenant L. Heaton, and Lieutenant L. Hampton, as representing the Hawke's Bay ltegiment, were waiting to greet the returning cadets and territorials, and a particularly proud man among those to give their welcome was Sta 11 Sergeant-Major G. O'Leary, who, together with Lieutenant Hampton, trained the teams, the sergeant-major having given several succesful years to such work in this district. * Menibers of the Hastings Citizens' Band had generously p'araded to assist in the welcome, and, as the train drew in with its triumphant military passengers, they struck up "Invercargill." In a short but very fitting speech •His Worship expressed his own and the town's pleasure at the great successes achieved by the local representatives, and complimented tliem on Ihe way in which they had given th district cause to be proud of them. After Sergeant D. Graham had made a brief reply on their behalf, the party were givei} three rousing clieers, and cheers were given also for Lieutenant Hampton and Sergeant-Ma.ior O'Leary.
