General Primo de Rivera was Prime Minister and virtual Dictator of Spain from September, 1923, till January, 1930, . He headed a military revolt, drove out the Parliamentary regime and installed a military Directory. As' time went on de Rivera alienated a large section of the army and navy andv mamy demands were made for hig dismtssal. Plots against the Ejrectory artd against tho tife of the Dictator have heen freouent.
